Clinical Optometry

Diploma in Clinical Optometry is a 18-24-month skill-based professional program that offers in-depth knowledge on primary health care provision and understanding on the concept of eye and vision related concerns. The program is focused on study and diagnosis in order to treat or rectify refractive disorders and related eye diseases.

The diploma course is specialized to impart knowledge on clinical sciences fundamental, specific to eye and vision. It encompasses the field of psychology and patient management as a course constituent. The program comprises the concepts of general anatomy, ocular anatomy, contact lens fundamentals and fitting, instrumentation, clinical methodology, care and complications, etc.

It further involves several examinations based on research studies and practices in the subject field. On career front, beginners in the field have work opportunities for the profile of researcher, assistant, junior medical coder, office assistant or technician, etc. Experienced individuals can work as practitioner, professor, consultant, etc. Aspirants may specialize and further explore the domain of contact lens, paediatric and behavioural optometry, orthotics, etc.

Admission to the program is based on merit and entrance exam. Exam to be conducted by the respective institutes. Minimum eligibility – A candidate must have completed senior school or equivalent level of examination in Science stream from a recognized board.
